lines

Hey all! I'm still kick'n!
Who... I'm not going to say, but I'm still kick'n. ^.^

Anyway, working in retail as I do, I work with a lot of people who are annoyed at the length of time they have to spend in the line... -_-;

You know them, you may have even been one at one time or another. (I haven't, 'cause I'm just perfect like that. ^.~) They yell at you as they come through the line, or if they're especially proficient, they do it while still in line. I forget who said it in General Conference... But they said something like this about angry drivers, "They act like you've insulted their mother, father, aunt, uncle, friends, dog, and all of your ancestors all the way back to Adam." I think that summarizes it pretty well. ^.^;

Anyway, rather then trade horror stories, I was thinking about the different reactions people have to different lines.

1. retail lines
2. grocery lines
3. theme park lines (ex: MM)

1- Well... I kinda already talked about these. You're willing to wait a little. But when it comes down to it, you're not going to wait more then about 15 minutes.

2- Groceries. Very similar as far as I've been able to compare. But I think people are a bit more willing to wait longer since, y'know... you kinda need food. Y'know... To live. To make it easier, I'll say 30 minutes, although it's probably more like 20.

3-Theme parks... For this, I'm gunna use Magic Mountain. ('cause I've been there recently-ish. And y'know... MM rocks!) ... (*ehem*) Now the average line there is about an hour, right? Longer? Maybe two if it's really popular? Probably three or four in the peak season.

So... We're willing to wait up to 8 times longer for a two minute thrill then we are for life-sustaining nourishment?...

I do it too. Don't get me wrong. But why???

I have no answer, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.
edit:

Picture!! ^.^ A quicky pic, but it gets the point across.

Good while it lasted

Well, since part of this blog 'o mine has been to blog about my life, I figured I'd write a little post about LNT... And how they're going out of business... -_-; Which means I have to go looking for work again... *sigh* Haza...

Well, it was good while it lasted. ^.^; I learned a bunch. And for that, I am grateful. ^.^ Annoyed I have to start looking again so soon... but grateful. ^.^

L..e...a........r....ni.....n......n.....g

Learning something takes a while, ya know? ^.^; And it comes in odd leaps, bounds and crawls... I'd forgotten that until just recently.

Thinking about work (because it is staging a hostile take-over of my life. O.o), and how slow I am... -_-; It's really, really annoying how slow I seem to be.

I commented to one of my co-workers the other day how slow I feel, and she said she started out the same way. ^.^ Actually, two of my co-workers, 'cause I asked someone else last week-ish about it too. And both of them said that they were slow as snails when they started. And one of them especially is a really hard worker. Which made me feel like I'm not a failure, which is always nice. ^.^;

But I'd forgotten how long it takes to learn something... In school you learn things. But usually, it's not totally out of left field. You have some basis of knowledge from which to base the new stuff on. Learning from scratch takes a bit longer... ^.^;;;

And ya know... Now I understand when people said they had different managers telling them different things... O.o; I can appreciate that now... ^.^;

Flustercation

... Durring work Monday, this comic would not leave my mind. >.O I had a really similar experience with a customer. (we're supposed to call them guests, but this is my blog dag-nabbit!) I forget exactly, but they were complaining about something that I had no control over. *sigh* Interesting day, that. ^.^;
And question: does everyone have problems getting all their stuff done at work? Now, I now I work slower then other people... But I'm thorough! I work hard!... But I get criticized anyway... I'm working harder then (I think) some of my co-workers, but yet I'm the one who needs special help from management... ARGH!!... Frustrating to no end...

Drapes of Wrath

I'm gunna post something now because I don't know when I'll be able to next. ^.^; Work seems to be staging a hostile take-over of my sanity and free time. >.O ... Why did I want to do this again?? *sigh* But it's getting better. ^.^; I'm not as hopeless, or I should say it's not as hopeless as it once was.

As for why the title? Well, I was at work, looking at some drapes and the name just jumped out at me. It's far too clever for me to be the first person to ever come up with it. But as far as my knowledge goes, I've never heard it before, so I lay at least partial claim to it. *stabs it with the flag of Fei-chan*

Now what was I going to say? ... Oh yeah. We were unwrapping boxes as work. And as I was opening things, I was tempted to steal...
Bubble wrap...
Yes... That's the type of horrible person I am...

And this wasn't the tiny stuff, no... This was the strong stuff. The big bubbles that make a nice loud "pop" when you pop 'um. ^.^ Ah... sweet bliss...

My name is Fei-chan, and I have a problem...

*lol*
Yeah, we were unwrapping boxes and one of the things (I forget what) was wrapped in the bubble wrap with the big bubbles. Waaaaay too tempting. It's for people like me that sites like PERPETUAL BUBBLEWRAP! was created...

Quirky

Well, I'm tagging myself from Confuzzled, who was half tagged by Annie.

The general idea is to list 6 things that are quirky about you.

You would not believe how much I've thought about this since I read that post... I'd do some strainge thing, or notice something about myself (the fact that I have ten fingers, for example, oh freak of nature that I am O.O), and make a mad dash for a piece of paper to write down the noted quirk so I could share it with ya'll... My adoring public. ^.^
Ok... Maybe not so adoring... More annonymous... Illusive... But public none-the-less. Or so I insist upon labbeling you, who have no other word to describe this particular senario.

Anywhoodle... On to the list!

1. I name things. Now, I mean everything. I was worse when I was younger... I would go so far as to name a favorite pencil. Now it's only confined to cars (Saphira), my favorite hat (Penny), and people. Most everone I know has some sort of nick name (whether they know it or not) that I call them. I may or may not call it to them, they may have no idea that I even think of them that way, but they are named none-the-less. (I don't usually use that particular verbage... but I've used it twice just in this post... odd...) There are some other things that I have names, like Kenshin, the messenger bag I am rarely without, but those are few and far between.

2. I write using four fingers. Y'know how most people only use three? Well, I use four... No idea why I started doing it. My mom does it too and is, as far as I know, the only other person who does. Now, maybe I learned it from her, maybe it's genetic... Who knows... But I've always written using four fingers. Thumb and pointer to direct, like you do with three. Middle to steady. Ring to set the pencil on.
And actually, before I knew this was weird I would always see those soft three-sided pencil things, you know... those ones that help you hold a pencil and make it easier to hold? I would see those, in their three-sidedness and wonder, "Who would buy those? They make it harder to use a pencil, and they're dang uncomfortable!" Never occured to me that people ususally only use three fingers. Whenever I try, it just feels funny... I can't control a pencil as well... *shrug*

3. I have two ears... Ok, you do too... But one is attached to my head, the other is not. Now, before you go all "Wait... What?" No, it's not totally unatached. It is securely on my head... But the cartilige isn't. One ear has the cartilige firmly attached. If you feel the back of your ear, you can feel the cartilage, and feel the side of your head. Most likely there's not a big gap there. Now, for me that's true with one ear. There's a tiny gap, but nothing spectacular.... Now on the other ear, it's different. The cartilage is not attached to my head. It's firmly attached with skin and what-not. But there's a definate gap between the cartilage and my skull. I'm sure I'm not explaining it well, but you'd really have to feel it to understand... The internet doesn't pose the best media for that sort of interaction, so you'll just have to take my mangled word for it.

4. Never ask me "What's up?" ... Invariably, I will aswer something like "The sky", "That way" or "Gas prices." Several people have threatened to hit me when I say it, but I say it anyway. ^.^ I hate those run-of-the-mill questions. Your friend sends you a "getting to know you" survey... A well meaning friend, who you have known for years, gives you a quiz that asks "How old are you?" Or "What is your favorite food?" ... To wich I lovingly reply 1,576.8 and yes. To people who don't know me, and for whom it is a valid question I will validly reply. But for those who ask and don't really care about the answer?... >.O Those are the ones that bug me. That's probably it with the "What's up?" thing too... That question has become a greeting more then an actual question. So anyway... ^.^; I always say "That way." or some such to the question "What's up?"

5. Holes... *shudder* Forget funnels, I am afraid of holes... And perhaps "afraid" is too strong a word... but certain types of holes just freak me out... Again, my mom is the only other one who this happens to, so maybe it's genetic. But certain holes are just freaky. Now, it's not like "Oh! There's a hole in the ground! Run away!" It's multiple holes in something that I feel shouldn't have holes in it. The major major hole thing is a certain type of frog... It lays its eggs on its back, then after a while skin grows over them... Well, when they hatch, the babies pop out of the skin like a bad zit... *shudder* It makes me itchy just thinking about it... The first time I remember holes freaking me out was when I looked at the bottom of a fern leaf. They have seeds on the bottom, which look freaky. Then I tried to rub them off, and that just made it worse. ... *shudder* Icky, icky holes...

6. Last one... Undignifiedly wet... I love old movies because they had to rely on the actors (who had to have talent... unlike today where where it's looks over talent...) and made the scenes real... I could make a list of things that bug me, but one of the ones that bugs me most, is how when a character in a modern movie gets wet, they're still beautiful... Are you still beautiful and shower-fresh when you're caught in the rain? Isn't there supposed to be rain getting into your eyes and dripping off your nose? I could site the perfect example of how it's supposed to be in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (not one of my favorites, but it shows my point rather nicely) Especially at 0:23 seconds, you can really see Audry Hepburn wet. Now I mean really, truly wet. There's water on her face, her hair is sticking to her jacket at odd angles, and she's blinking a lot 'cause the water is in her eyes... Dag-nabbit, that's how you're supposed to look!! Not this "Oh, I'm so beautiful" that they show in modern movies... For example in something like Princess Diaries 2 (which I enjoyed immensely, for sake of argument I will proceed to use it to take out my wrath on), where Anne Hathaway gets out of the fountain and talks to her grandmother. True, she's very wet... But she's still beautiful. No, I wouldn't expect water in her eyes or something, but how many people do you think fixed her hair before she did the scene? I mean, look at it! It's perfect! It's wet, but it's perfect! It frames her face just so, and it's perfect! ... *growl* It's an odd thing to be bugged about, but bugged I be.

So... ^.^; Those be 6 of my quirks...

Envy me! ^.^

Bwahahahahahaaa! ^.^ I got a signed copy of Brisinger!!! *happy dance* I wish it'd been signed in person instead of a sticker... But I have a signed copy!! Wa-hoooo!
Short story, I was the first person to buy the book from Barns&Noble.
Long story... Well, first of all, I've been waiting for this book ever since I finished the previous book in the series, Eldest. I've been waiting and waiting... I love these books (I even thing they're better than Harry Potter... but don't shoot me). And I figured since they're fairly popular that either Borders or BN would have a midnight party for it.
Well I didn't see anything...
It was a week 'till the book came out, and still nothing... You could reserve a copy through the Internet, but I didn't see anything for the store...
Well, finally, yesterday I went to Borders and saw a sign saying that there was a midnight party. Awesome! Ok, I have the money, I have a car, I have no sanity. I'm gunna do it! ^.^
So I asked someone who worked there where I went to reserve a copy for the midnight party. "Oh, we stopped taking reservations on the 14th." ... dang... "You're welcome to come anyway and once everyone else has gotten one, if there's one left you can get one then."
...
Not the answer I was hoping for... So my dilemma was deciding whether to come that night, wait for a few hours for a maybe (not a fun option), or sleep and go the next morning at 9. ... I haven't gotten to bed at a decent hour for a while and have been sleep deprived, so I was gunna do the 9am option.
Well right after that my mom and I went to BN. (I love having two book stores a few blocks away from eachother. ^.^ Dangerous, but cool) On the door as you go in there was a sign saying "BN opening early at 8am for Brisinger!" Oh? My curiosity is peaked now. So I discard my previous thought, and figure, "Ok... I'll set my alarm, come here in my pj's (a t-shirt and fuzzy pants), and get the book. I like that plan."
So that's what I do. I set my alarm, it goes off, I actually wake up, and I'm awake enough (and excited enough) to go and get in the car to head off to BN.
So I'm there... It's about 7:45... 15 minutes until they open and I can grab my book.
*looks right*
*looks left*
...
Why is there no one in the parking lot??
I got out and tried the door, but it was locked. There were workers, but no customers yet... No one... Now I figured (and am still confused that there weren't) that there would be a line of kids. Yeah, Borders did the midnight thing, so not a huge line, but a line. Not all parents would be crazy enough to drive their kids in the middle of the night to get a book. I figured some would only be crazy enough to go early on a Saturday morning.
But there was no one...
Eventually another guy in a truck comes up, and goes in. By this time it was 8, but I wasn't sure if they were open or just teasing me. I felt silly for being the only one there, and would've felt quite silly if I'd gone in and they'd politely told me to go away...
So I see the guy get out of his truck and go in... "Ok... Well, it's 8... I'm going for it!" So I pluck up my quickly fading courage and my quickly growing anticipation and excitement, and go in.
They're open! Haza! *phew*
After I walk in, a guy behind the counter asks me if I'm here for Brisinger, (no... I just thought I'd set my alarm, wake up early and drive in my pjs 'cause I wanted a latte... of course I want Brisinger!) So I said yes, and walked up.
Well thankfully that guy from the truck was getting the audio book (which he unwrapped and played the moment he got in the car), 'cause once I got the book the guy behind the counter said that the first one to buy got a signed copy. ^.^
Can't tell you how that made my day. *happy dance* I came close to not setting my alarm and just getting it at Target or something 'cause they're cheap.... I could've gone to the Borders party, the guy in the truck could've gotten the book over the audio book, I could've wasted time doing... I dunno... getting dressed or something... But all these little things came together and I got a singed copy!! ^.^
Not that I think Heavenly Father decided I particularly needed a signed copy... But it sure made my day, and I think it's funny how little things that you might even complain about (I couldn't do the midnight thing for example) can come together to get you something you never dreamed. ^.^
So yeah... Pg 146, and loveing it. *huggles book* Preciousssss...
